Roll with it

Roll with it

The title, “roll with it”, in the literal sense, highlights the action of rolling the dice and hoping for the best in a game but having to take what you get.
Similarly, the popular phrase is used to commend how those faced with adversity have learned to adapt. Often it doesn’t matter how much you have or the situation you are in but how you respond.

Martina Jackson's Roll With It embraces the reproducibility inherent in more contemporary forms of image production, creating works that evoke the mechanical method of Warhol's own silkscreens, while utilising the medium of digital image manipulation and printing. Jackson's depiction of an interlocking grid takes the image surface and abstracts it through the repeated motif of dice, whose geometric forms evoke both the world of gaming and the aesthetic priorities of contemporary art. Translated from analogue to digital and back again through the process of production, the overlayed pattern of a turtle shell provides a simplified decorative element, oscillating between the natural and the man-made. While the works title alludes to the role of chance in everyday life, Jackson demonstrates the ways in which popular forms can be assimilated into the conceptual realm of fine art.

IDEAS

There are so many pen drawings to choose from! Be sure to check them out with these tips in mind:

• Drawings work well on their own or together - there can never be too many.

• Use as accents in eclectic gallery walls or create a clean gallery wall with straight lines.

• Look for recurring patterns, similar themes, or just what feels right to you!

• Can be cut down to other sizes if 11x14" is not the right size for you. 8x10" works well without losing the print labelling.

CARE

• Although the art is made to last, avoid direct sunlight which is damaging to most things you love - including you! Even my patio furniture has tan lines...

• Keep prints in resealable archival sleeve until you are ready to frame them. You can also save and reuse this sleeve!

• Keep all art including works on canvas away from water and wipe with a dry, microfiber cloth to remove dust as needed.

• Store and handle paper items with care to avoid creasing
