HER STORY

Martina Jackson is a Caymanian emerging artist. She works mainly in pen & ink - necessitated out of a nomadic period of her life.  Her debut exhibit “Out of my mind” held at Parcel 110 in January 2021 featured 67 pen drawings completed over a period of four years in over ten countries. Through her drawings she captures present moments and nostalgic memories. Drawing in pen helped her to overcome the pressure of perfection and fear of failure. Intricate patterns and details in the drawings became a form of meditation. She is an avid mental health advocate and believes in the power of art and has been a guest speaker at the Alex Panton Foundation symposium and with Mental Health First Aid.

Martina formally studied art up to International Baccalaureate (IB) level - at Waterford Kamhlaba United World College (UWC) in Swaziland - a school also attended by local artist Charles Long. UWC was where Martina’s passion for education, arts and diversity really ignited. She has traveled to nearly 30 countries, but in recent years is quite happy to be at home in Cayman.
